Leakage after fitting the oil filter insert OX 388D Eco in 1.6 and 2.0 TDI engines
In diesel vehicles from the VW Group, the oil filter housing may leak in the engines above following an oil change and the associated filter replacement. This can occur if excessive assembly torque is applied to the housing cover.
After the oil filter insert is changed, the cover is screwed back onto the housing; the permissable torque is 25 Nm (+5 Nm). If too much force is applied, this can damage the thread and warp the cover, resulting in leakage from the housing cover and loss of engine oil.
Important! When changing the filter, always use a torque spanner to ensure compliance with the manufacturer’s specifications. To prevent damage, coat the new gasket with clean engine oil before fitting.
